Korea politics

Sixty two years ago, the Republic of Korea pronounced her status and
adopted the Constitution.

Like in any other democratic country, the president is the chief of
state. The power of the government is divided into three sections:
legislative, executive and judicial.

The legislative branch is formed by the 299 people that form the
National Assembly. They are elected for four years and are formed by
individual members, the presiding officers, the plenary and the
committees. The National Assembly is forms also by the administrative
organs and supporting groups.

The executive power is run by the president. The prime minister and his
seventeen ministries form as well the executive power. They are also
included 17 independent agencies, he Board of Inspection and Audit, and
the National Intelligence Service.

The judiciary is formed by the Supreme Court; the high courts or
appellate courts; the district courts.

The Korean Constitution was amended nine times.

But we can't forget the important role of the political parties. They
developed in the same time with democracy. The Korean Constitution says
that ``political parties shall be protected by the government according
to the provisions of relevant laws''. The role of the political parties
is to contribute to the well being of the country by developing
democratic politics. Some examples of political parties are: the Liberal
Party, the New Democratic Party, the Democratic Republican Party or the
Democratic Party.

The seventeen ministries are also members of the State Council. The
Government makes policies, and the ministries are responsible to
implement the policies in their ministry. The 17 ministry in Korea are:
Ministry of Unification, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry
of Justice, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Government
Administration and Home Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of
Science and Technology, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of
Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy,
Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Health and
Welfare, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of
Construction and Transportation, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and
Fisheries.

The president is not only the chief of the state, but he has the
obligation to represent his country in international affairs (foreign
relations). He also commands the armed forces. If the President dies,
the Prime Minister is the one that will temporary took his place. The
Prime Minister of Korea is the President executive assistant. Elected by
the president, the Prime Minister has to supervise the other ministries.
